Richard Ferguson

Richard heads up the firm’s Online Brand Enforcement practice. Richard is a dual-qualified solicitor advocate and Chartered Trade Mark Attorney.

Richard works with clients across a broad range of industry sectors. He has expertise advising the full range of clients, from small start-ups and SMEs through to political parties, religious charities and large multinationals.

In addition to UK trade mark prosecution and litigation matters, Richard has developed a particular interest in global brand enforcement projects and alternative dispute resolution to enable brands to protect their rights online. This is achieved through a combination of using technology to streamline workflows, developing enforcement strategies and utilising a working knowledge of the laws and remedies within various jurisdictions. The digital nature of the work has given rise to various legal issues, including trade libel, breach of confidence, freedom of expression, trade mark and copyright infringement.

Richard has also spent extended periods on secondment with two large UK plcs. Based on these experiences, he appreciates the importance of clear and prompt advice to clients together with the commercial angle.

Outside of the office, Richard enjoys playing 5-a-side football, going to gigs and travelling. He is also an avid cook and loves eating out.
