Annemieke joined Stobbs in 2024, and works in our Netherlands office.
Annemieke started her journey in the world of intellectual property when she obtained her LLM degree at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
In 1998 she then joined Unilever, originally starting out as a paralegal. She later became Trade Mark Counsel, and she was responsible for the trade mark protection of a number of different global brands (Wall’s/Ola, Ben & Jerry’s, Knorr, Hellmann’s, Cif, Domestos/Glorix and many more). During her time at Unilever, she held two roles at the same time for a number of years as both Trade Mark Counsel and Legal Counsel. As part of this latter role, she advised on the use of claims and has been involved in negotiating various commercial agreements.
In 2018, Annemieke joined Reckitt as Brand Protection Counsel. A few years later, she was promoted to Senior Brand Protection Counsel. At Reckitt, she handled the global hygiene brands Air Wick and Lysol. When Lysol was rolled out globally, Annemieke managed the process of clearing the relevant trade marks and getting the appropriate trade mark protection in place in the countries involved. She also managed the process of creating two online training modules on trade mark prosecution and enforcement aimed at non-IP specialists, together with an external service provider.
During her 25+ years of in-house experience, Annemieke has been responsible for all aspects of the development, protection, prosecution, enforcement and maintenance of a large number of global brands. In more granular detail, this meant that she managed multi-jurisdictional trade mark clearance searches and filings, has dealt with renewals, oppositions, cancellation actions and infringement cases. She has drafted and negotiated IP related agreements (e.g. licensing, co-existence, etc) and was also involved in due diligence and M&A related activities. Alongside this, she also provided trade mark advice and support to other colleagues in the legal department and in the marketing department.
Annemieke completed the professional education programme of the Benelux Association for Trademark and Design Law (BMM) and therefore became a qualified Benelux Trademark Attorney in 2003.
Outside of work, Annemieke likes photography, travelling, walking, cycling, interior decorating and visiting museums.
