Emma qualified as a solicitor in 2013 and supports clients in a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters. From contract negotiations, strategic input on the protection and exploitation of IP rights, to dispute work, she has broad experience of both “pure” IP matters and closely connected areas such as reputation and general commercial. Emma has worked with a breadth of clients, from individuals – be they just starting out or household names – to longstanding companies with global reach.
Emma trained at international firm Hogan Lovells, qualifying into their IP department. She spent time as sole in-house lawyer for the London Screenwriters' Festival before returning to private practice as an associate in the litigation department of media and entertainment firm Lee & Thompson where she was involved in a multitude of commercial and brand-related dispute work. Most recently she was Head of Brands at Marks & Spencer, managing the various – and varied! – IP matters as well as the growing area of third-party brands.
Her time in-house means Emma has a deep understanding of commercial pressures, and experience coordinating with business partners to ensure a strategic, pan-business approach to IP that aligns with a company’s particular vision.
Outside of work, Emma is a keen runner and climber, is passionate about creative writing, and - when she can squeeze it in - loves all things arts and craft.
