Stobbs Brand Intelligence supports launch of The City of London Police’s Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit “IP Crime Directory”
The City of London Police’s Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit is today launching The IP Crime Directory. The initiative is designed to boost UK and International Law Enforcement’s ability to work directly with owners of intellectual property to identify, tackle and disrupt intellectual property crime which is estimated to be worth £1.3 trillion globally.

The website is a secure database for customs and police officers to help them identify counterfeit goods with the help of information uploaded by rights holders.  Information like packaging and other identifiers for counterfeit goods will be held on the website. Details of prior cases and contact points for brands will bring law enforcement and business closer together to ensure law enforcement has the tools to take action immediately.  The site will also enable those signed up to create alerts that could warn brands or law enforcement about the latest crime trends in intellectual property crime.

Detective Chief Superintendent Glenn Maleary, Head of the Economic Crime Directorate at the City of London Police said -

""The key to tackling intellectual property crime is business and law enforcement working together to take action against criminals who undermine not only the UK economy, but economies worldwide.

The Intellectual Property Crime Directory will help bring more criminals to justice, reduce the amount of dangerous fake goods and give confidence to the consumer that what they are buying is the genuine product.""

At the launch event today, Detective Chief Superintendent Glenn Maleary of the City of London Police will lead a panel discussion regarding the co-operation of international law enforcement in the fight against IP crime. Julius Stobbs will be joined on the panel by the head of PIPCU, Detective Chief Inspector Peter Ratcliffe, Homeland Security Investigations UK Attaché James Mancuso, Baker McKenzie Global Chairman Paul Rawlinson, and Glenn Jones, Director of Anti-Counterfeiting at Hewlett Packard.

Stobbs take a practical approach to fighting IP Crime and strive for effective ways to maximise the benefit of law enforcement involvement in brand owners' wider enforcement strategies.  The IP Crime Directory will no doubt prove to be one.
