The in-house trademark department of 2027: preparing for an innovative future

The IP landscape is undergoing a revolution that provides great opportunity for those who relish a challenge and are eager to embrace the future.

The job of in-house counsel is likely to continue to become much more complex in the next few years. Employers and stakeholders will expect in-house counsel to function as true general counsel for brands, offering broad legal support in relation to all fields of law that can impact brand value, health and reputation.

Technology provides a lot of opportunity, bringing efficiency gains, strengthening brand protection strategies and convincing leadership of the added value of the IP function.  Business trends such as additional revenue streams through licensing programmes, sustainability and corporate social responsibility, and straitened resources will require in-house counsel to stay on top of their game.
