Matthew joined Stobbs in 2025 to open our US office.
Matthew was first introduced to the world of trademarks when he clerked for the London Law Agency in Temple Chambers during his gap year. After law school, he served a clerkship on the Washington State Supreme Court and then moved to Charlotte to practice trademark law. After 6 years in an IP boutique, Matthew left to become a name partner in his own firm where he spent the next 18 years honing his craft.
Matthew is a Board Certified Specialist in Trademark Law. He devotes significant time and effort in service to the Bar. Matthew served as the Chairman of the Trademark Specialization Committee and as President of the Intellectual Property Section. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. Matthew is also an NCDRC Superior Court Mediator.
In his spare time, Matthew enjoys cooking, travel, and struggling with French. He also wages a constant battle against Father Time. He is a blackbelt in Aikido, runs Spartan Races, and swings kettlebells. Add two active teen aged boys, an incredibly successful wife, and a ridiculous golden doodle into the mix… and it’s a pretty full life!

I love ALL the food. Top choices: grilled salmon, chicken piccata, pad thai, street tacos, eastern Carolina pulled pork, sushi, beef bourguignon. If there’s lamb on the menu… it’s a safe bet that’s what I’m ordering.
Favourite music?
Mumford & Sons, Zach Bryan, Shane Smith & The Saints, Noah Kahan, Pink Floyd, Metallica, AC/DC, old school Rod Stewart.
Favourite book?
The Hobbit.
Favourite gadget?
These are always in my bag: OLIGHT Baton 3 Flashlight, SONY Ear Buds and a DEEJO Tour Eiffel pocket knife.

Epic Sagas: Potter, LOTR, Star Wars.
