Chris Sleep
IA Director

Chris qualified as a solicitor in 2005, and has developed a specialism in all areas of intellectual property law since then. Prior to joining Stobbs in April 2015, he played a leading role in the IP team of a top-100 regional law firm, with a particular emphasis on brand protection and trade marks, designs, copyright and database rights.

Chris assists clients with the identification of existing IP rights, and strategising how best to protect key business assets. This advice is often provided within the context of wider commercial strategies, whether for early-stage companies and start-ups preparing for investment, maximising value for companies preparing for exit, or in developing sophisticated brand protection and enforcement policies and strategies for more established companies.

Chris has particular expertise in contentious matters. He is well regarded for the commercial approach that he adopts to resolving disputes, with considerable experience of directly negotiating and drafting settlement and co-existence agreements, as well as through mediation. Chris also has experience of pursuing and defending claims in the High Court and Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC).

Outside of work, much of Chris’ time is dedicated to his young family. When time permits, he likes to fulfil his passions for music and sports. He likes to spend time discovering new music, as well as acquainting himself with old treasures, and loves to watch live music at gigs and festivals. Chris is also a fan of most sports, and regularly attends Twickenham for rugby internationals. He is also a keen golfer.
